Girls can do all that boys can do, if only… Episode 431

A comment on the page for the fantastic feminist programming language mentions this study, claiming

[it] found that gender does not affect programming performance

The abstract of the study:

In this study, we analyzed (…) a CSCL environment over a period of five years. (…) we found that girls spend significantly more time than boys communicating with others in the CSCL environment. Analyzing the children’s level of programming achievement, we found that gender does not affect programming performance. Regression analysis shows that performance is correlated with prior programming experience and time on task. Boys are more likely than girls to have prior programming experience, and spend more time programming on average. (…) These results suggest that educators wishing to increase gender equity in technical skill should focus on strategies for fostering interest among girls.

In other words: gender equity in technical skills is easily achieved. Just find a way to motivate girls to spend less time “communicating” and a lot more time actually coding. Like: 8 hours at a time for 6 days a week.

I see no problems at all.

Equality – All the benefits of men, and then some more

Hearing a feminist speak

‘Can I tell you something that really p––––– me off? It’s that a lot of guys are still uncomfortable with the notion of female equality and the fact that many women have now risen up’

And then she goes on to explain that most of her career is based on the fact that women are treated better than men.
The money quote of the article actually is: ‘In my job, it’s just like being a man – but better’

Equality in the mind of this feminist is: Men giving up all their privileges while women giving up none of theirs.
This is not new at all and still very very stupid.

When does it end?

Communism ends with a net $50,000 a year.
Feminism ends upon meeting the right one.
Atheism ends when the plane starts vibrating.

A feminist programming language

I am currently exploring feminist critiques of logic in hopes of outlining a working framework for the creation of a feminist programming language.

I am a bit excited about this! Just imagine: A feminist putting feminist lore to the test and creating something that either works efficiently and can get a job done – or not.
If this language gets created at all we will finally have testable proof what a system that does not rely on the oppressive laws of physics and logic but on the benign suggestions, nay: hints, of the feminist mindset actually can do.

This is so cool. All of Gender hocus pocus can be validated by this experiment. If, of course, this programming language ever sees the light of day and does not rely on any patriarchal concepts like e.g. Logic. Or Object-Subject-Constructs. Or – god forbid – software patterns like a factory.

I wonder how she will implement it without any patriarchal Assembler-code at the base.

Edit: The internet, always quick to help the worthy causes, already spawned a project: c+= (pronounce See Equality)

Very, very promising.

2. No constants or persistence. Rigidity is masculine(…)
3. No state. The State is The Man.(…)
5. No class hierarchy (…)
(…) no object inheritance, as inheritance is a tool of the Patriarchy.(…)
12. Forced program termination is not allowed unless the program consents to it. (…)

Go and read the whole thing, it is really off to a good start 🙂

Why should priests have no wife?

A thought, probably wrong, but who knows…

In the Spearhead today the topic is Paternalism:

Paternalism grows out of the “big man” societies in which there is a top-down system for wealth redistribution. All wealth flows to the chief, and he doles it out to his subjects

I thought: “If I could do that at all I could only do it if I dedicated my whole life to that one task: Being a fair chief.”

As soon as the chief has any other motivations but Being Fair he would fail.
Try being fair with a wife badgering you with her own agenda.

Is that the reason for celibacy? Keep the gossip and the scheming out of the priests life so that he can treat his flock fairly?

Do I need to say it: Of course not all women are scheming and gossiping. But very many are.
If I wanted to build a Good Church I would want all my priests be free of bad influences and not only some.

Most of the times a cigar is just a cigar

this scene is even more creepy when you realize Spirited Away was a metaphor for the sex industry in Japan

“Totoro’s about dead girls!”

“Spirited Away is about sex!”

You know what I hear?

“Maybe if I make up something that sounds smart, people will think I’m smart, even if it’s a complete fucking lie!”

Go and read the entire post for an explanation. Go and watch “Chihiro” if you haven’t yet. Quite a magical film.

And if in future I hear some words I will try to translate accordingly.
Patriarchy – People of all sexes trying to find a place in the world that fits them
Objectification – Lust
Rape Culture – Desperate need for an Out-Group
Women are oppressed – Women can’t do anything they want

Two razors that help in coping with the world:
Occam’s razor: “when you have two competing theories that make exactly the same predictions, the simpler one is the better.”
Practically all buzzwords of any ideology fail that one, certainly all feminist ones.

Hanlon’s razor: “Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.”
I know of no person who, at some or several points in his life, didn’t deserve the reaction: “Ah well, he doesn’t know any better.”
With some it’s just more obvious than with others.
